Willie and John
2006-08-23-6:46 p.m.

Ok, it has been a while. I don't know why I haven't written, I just haven't felt like it I guess so get off my back!

Anyway, I HAD to enter about Willie Nelson/John Fogerty last night. It was fabulous enough to warrant an entry that will be captured, of course.

I wish I had a picture, my mom braided my hair and Aunt Cathy's (which we were quite proud of considering people were paying like $40 for fake Willie braids). But my braids fell out so I ended up with pigtails, which got me questioned for buying beers each time. One lady told me there was no WAY I was over 18. heee.

Anyway, Willie was just awesome. I have been to many concerts and his guitar playing was just insane in comparison to most, and all I had been anticipating was the VOICE. I had no idea! His guitar is also the most beat up looking thing that makes the most incredible music. It was so cool to see.

Willie's little sister was the piano player and she blew everyone away. He also had one of the guys from Alabama playing guitar and singing, that was so cool. I love me some Alabama. He started off with Whiskey River, an all time favorite (Cathy got a very lovely Whiskey River concert T). My favorite moment though, was when he sang this mix that was kind of gospel and blues and folk and who knows what, and he ended the mix with verses of "I'll Fly Away." I swear to all that is Holy I clapped my hands so hard they still hurt.

John Fogerty was wonderous too. Such energy! Such goodness! I still can't believe I am fortunate enough to hear all those classics live. And later in the night I kept thinking the concert HAD to be ending, I would think he had played all the songs I really hoped and dreamed to hear, but then he would pull out more and more and they were all such great hits.

My favorite moment of that set was when Fogerty's son, who must have been 15 or 16 or so, played "Down on the Corner" with him. The son got a standing ovation and it was all so good! He also had a very cool backdrop that was apparently the bayou, and with certain songs there would be black lights and it had these cool images that would stand out.

AND he did this montage for the Troops that was so moving. He apparently fought in Vietnam and a couple of his songs address war and it was interesting to hear about where he was coming from when he wrote them. I loved both songs before but now they seem even more meaningful to me.

The only sad part was that there had to BE standing ovations because people were SITTING the whole live long night. I am usually into the concert stand and DANCE mode, so while I expected people to sit through more mellow songs, come on people get up SOME OF THE TIME at least. But no...I had to seat-dance which is just not as satisfying.

And Java wants me to tell you that King Louis, the royal ball python, is now 13 years old and over 5 ft. long. Just so ya know.
